Russian beats Thai opponent 6-4, 6-4
'I'm happy to defend my title,' says Zvonareva

Russia's Vera Zvonareva beat Tamarine Tanasugarn 6-4, 6-4 to win the Pattaya Open title in Thailand.

Zvonereva, the defending champion, took a 3-0 lead in the first set but Tanasugarn fought back in a tense match in front of a vocal crowd.

"I'd like to congratulate Tammy for coming back here and playing so well this week. The Thai people are so proud of her," said Zvonareva, the first player to defend the title.

"For me, I'm very happy to come back and defend my title this year."
