2008 women’s downhill mountain bike world champion Rachel Atherton was involved in a training accident with a truck on January 19th, sustaining a dislocated shoulder and cuts to the face.

According to early reports, Atherton hit the truck head-on while riding her Cervelo road bike – which took most of the impact of the crash. She was training with her brothers Gee and Dan.

Further information about her injuries will be available later today when she sees a specialist, but the team hope she will be fit to race in the first round of the mountain bike World Cup in April

Further updates and more pictures from the aftermath of the crash can be found on the Animal Commencal team website.
