Vertigo Bangkok Review: The Famous Restaurant in the Sky

About 5 years ago, I’ve visited Moon Bar, at the top of Banyan Tree Hotel. At that time I just had a drink and enjoyed the remarkable view. Now, several years later, I have returned to eat at Vertigo, the restaurant right next to Moon Bar.

First and foremost, this view is one of the best in Bangkok. Being on the 60th floor puts you a bit higher than most of the Bangkok skyline. There seems to always be a magical sensation on a roof-top.

There was a special menu by visiting chef Bobby Chinn the night we visited. The servers were warm and very personal right from the start. We started off with the chef’s oyster brulee which had sautéed spinach, cauliflower puree and sake sabayon.

The next course included three small item including a crab cake, a Vietnamese inspired spring roll and crab corn espresso. The crab cake was definitely my favorite!

When things got truly exciting were when the tropical seafood ceviche arrived. It had a unique presentation, bursting out of the coconut shell.

The first few courses came in rapid-fire mode, so we took a short break and enjoyed our next glass of wine, a 2013 Craggy Range Pinot Noir and then had a pallet cleansing sorbet.

It was time for the main course, I chose the Jasmine Tea Smoked Duck Breast. The duck had enjoyable flavor, but could’ve been slightly more tender.

Finally, time for the Morou Chocolate Pudding with vanilla bourbon ice cream. I’m not sure why this was called a pudding, it was more of chocolate lava cake. Whatever you call it, it was tasty. The staff were great and at this point brought over a few rounds of special Banyan Tree cocktails for us to enjoy! Probably my favorite part of dessert!
