The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force is grappling with the devastating news of the untimely death of one of its own, Constable 170 Shem Severin.

Severin met his demise in a vehicular collision earlier this morning along the Cul De Sac Highway, leaving the law enforcement community in mourning.

Police Commissioner, Mrs Crusita Descartes-Pelius, expressed the sorrow felt by the force, saying, "Earlier this morning, our beloved Shem Severin, Constable 170, took his last breath, following an unfortunate vehicular collision."

Constable Severin was more than just a dedicated member of the force; he was actively involved in community policing activities, youth development initiatives, and sports.

His commitment extended to representing both the senior National and Police Cricket Teams, leaving an indelible mark in the Windward Island Senior Tournament and various regional support operations.

Commissioner Pelius reflected on Constable Severin's multifaceted personality, stating, "On a cricket pitch, he was not only the comedian, but the motivator. Never one to accept defeat, there was always a lesson to be learnt. A young man, who was a team player, a person at ease in any environment; he would shine equally bright in a formal setting, as he did on a playing field."

The Commissioner emphasized Constable Severin's significant role within the force, describing him as the glue that held it together. "His humility was as impressive as his towering stature, and his passing is a significant loss to the RSLPF."

In the face of this tragedy, Commissioner Pelius extended sincere condolences to Severin's colleagues, family, and friends.

She urged fellow officers to honour Severin's legacy by raising their heads and spirits, stating, "Let only our flags hang low today."

Recognizing the emotional toll on the force, Commissioner Pelius encouraged those in need to seek support from the Police Welfare Association for counselling services. She emphasized the importance of utilizing support systems and healthy coping mechanisms during this challenging time.

According to the Police Commissioner, this year has posed a severe test of strength for the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, marked by the loss of several serving members.

Commissioner Pelius concluded her statement, saying, "May we find a path to healing by relying on the formidability of the collective. We are stronger together. May he, and all those we have lost, rest in peace. May the Lord strengthen us during this time."
