Optional Upgrades Breakdown:

As you've probably discovered, there are a handful of options and ways to configure your Macfly paramotor. Here's a quick breakdown of the options, what they mean, what most people do, and what we recommend.

Cage Size - there are two main cage sizes worth considering, 138cm, and 150cm. The 138cm cage is the smaller more compact version that will be using a 125cm or 130cm prop. The 150cm cage is the cage that can safely run a 140cm prop. We often opt for the 150cm cage as we prefer the larger prop because it produces more thrust. The 138cm cage is a good option for smaller, shorter, or lighter-weight pilots. The larger cage can be more bulky and can make ground handling more tricky, depending on your height/weight. 95% of customers opt for the 150cm cage.

Spar Options - There are two main spar options, and for those who don't know the spars are the sections of the cage that go from the core to the outer hoop. The two main spar options are titanium and carbon fiber. The carbon fiber spares are designed and offset to help counter the torque steer and they do a fantastic job. The titanium spars do not help with torque compensation. The titanium spars are stronger and often preferred for newer, less experienced paramotor pilots. The carbon spare addon does include the titanium spars so 95% of customers get both when they order. They often start with the titanium and switch to the carbon as they progress.

Swingarm Options - There are two swingarm options, the standard arms and the acro arms. The acro arms are reinforced swingarms to hold stronger G forces and loading on the swingarms. The standard swingarms are plenty strong, but for larger pilots, or more aggressive pilots, the acro arms are a nice addition. We almost always opt for the acro arms, because it's better to be safe than sorry. For pilots who may never pull G forces, you may prefer to opt for the standard arms. 95% of our customers opt for the acro arms.

Fuel Tank - There are 3 fuel tank sizes, 10L, 12L, and 18L. Which fuel tank is right for you, is a question of what type of flying you plan to do. We almost always opt for the 18L fuel tank because you can always fill it up with less, but you can't fill the smaller ones with more. There is a small weight increase with the larger tank, but it's small enough you will never notice. On average, pilots burn about 4-6L of fuel per hour, so an 18L fuel tank can get you around 3-4 hours of flight time. The 12L gets you 2-3 hours. The fuel tanks do come with fuel level markings on the right side per our request to Macfly. This option is included by us. 95% of customers opt for the 18L fuel tank.

Throttle - There are a few throttle options. Vittorazi throttle, Polini throttle, and the Off-Grid Aviation throttle. The Off-Grid aviation throttle is our preference by a long shot, and we never order a unit without one. We find the geometry and hand positioning to be the most comfortable and intuitive. 99% of our customers opt for the Off-Grid Throttle.

Cage Color - There are two color options for the cage, silver and black. The silver is an unpainted silver, and the black is a powder-coated matt black. This is nothing more than pilot preference and we find the black to give the paramotor that much better of a look We almost always opt for the black.

Harness - There are 4 main harness options, SOL REV, SUP AIR, Dudek Light, and Dudek Comfort. Each harness comes with its own pros and cons, and we've found more than anything It comes down to the pilot's weight and height as to which they tend to prefer. We at Backcountry PPG offer a FREE exchange to any harness if you find yourself not preferring the one you originally ordered. We have most sizes in stock and can swap quickly with you. This is not something you will find elsewhere. Unless you already know exactly which harness is the right one for you, we recommend giving us a call to help you figure out which one is the right fit.

Reinforcement Bar - The reinforcement bar (as seen in some product photos) is a cross bar that attaches between two of the lateral spars. This titanium cross bar adds support and strength, reducing the cage flex on the paramotor. This is a great option for new pilots prone to making mistakes, or trike pilots. This will make your cage strong enough to handle hard power forwards, which is what trikes do, and will keep the cage from bending or flexing during a fall. We often do not recommend this and most customers do not opt for this option. Our team do not personally fly with this, but we do add these on to our training units. It is a must have if you plan to put your Macfly on a trike.
