Description

This Selmer Mark VI soprano saxophone is in excellent condition with 95%+ of the original lacquer. Most of the lacquer wear is on the player touch spots. There is very light player wear across the entire horn. There is evidence of repair around the flair of the bell which has left a slight wave around the edge.  Please note someone etched letters and numbers in the bell next to the bell lip. Please see the pictures for details. This saxophone has just come back from the shop where it was cleaned, completely re-padded, and adjusted, so it plays wonderfully. At some point in the past, a custom thumb tip stop was added to the back of the horn. This is not standard on these horns. Please see the pictures for details. The engraving on the bell is gorgeous and crisp with leaves circling around to the back of the horn. The words “Henri Selmer Paris” are surrounded by laurel leaves with “Selmer No 176466 Made in France Mark VI” below the bell. The serial number is “176466” making this a 1970’s vintage horn. This is a good mid-range serial number Mark VI and it really plays with that iconic Selmer Mark VI sound.  It has great intonation and a beautiful round tone.  It comes in the original case, which is still in good used condition. No mouthpiece included.

Selmer’s Balanced Actions, Super Balanced Actions, and Mark VI’s are the Stradivarius of saxophones. At the end of the day deciding which to buy is a little like picking between a Lamborghini or a Ferrari. It is really a matter of preference. For this particular horn, we can tell you that it has that rich, dark, iconic Selmer sound. These are not Yamahas that are cranked out; each saxophone has its own character and presence that is almost impossible to describe on paper. It has to be heard; it has to be felt.
