Anime: Peru is the country that consumes the most yaoi in Latin America

Before the end of March, an analysis of the countries that show the most interest in anime and manga has gone viral on social networks. The results have surprised users, who have been curious to know what position Peru is in and what has been searched for in the last year. This information was made known thanks to a free Google tool that allows a comparison between regions and cities.

If we talk only about the volume of searches for the word “anime”, then our country ranks 36th, taking Indonesia first. These data determine that the most googled animation in 2021 and early 2022 was Tokyo Revengers, a manga series written and illustrated by Ken Waku and which has an animated version. Record of Ragnarok and Chainsaw man also caught the attention of users.

Another theme linked to anime is the yaoi, yuri and hentai genres. The former, also known as 'Boys love', has had an impressive search volume in the last twelve months. Our country ranks first in Latin America, but second in the global analysis, since Turkey ranks first.

WHAT IS YAOI?

Yaoi is interpreted as a genre of manga and novels that describes stories about relationships between men, usually this type of content is aimed at female audiences. It is often referred to as 'Boys love' (BL) today. There are several ways to present oneself, since stories can focus on romantic scenes, love at first sight or chance of fate.

Other stories are not suitable for minors because they have graphic and explicit representations of sexual acts. The opposite of yaoi would be yuri, a term used to represent woman-to-woman relations.

Also considered are fanfics that are shared on specialized forums or platforms. These are usually starred by celebrities who are romantically united in these series, both written and visual.
