Description
Dioscorea elephantipes, also called elephant foot, is a very special plant native to South Africa. It is a vine-type geophyte plant with a very curious caudex since its shape, texture and cavities are reminiscent of an elephant's foot. Its large leaves are alternate and cordate, bright green. Its flowering is made up of tiny white and yellow flowers. It has a rest period in winter during which it can lose its leaves until they sprout again in spring. It is a perfect plant to grow indoors or in greenhouses.
